We recognise that positive mental health and wellbeing are fundamental to the success and happiness of our pupils, staff and wider school community.
We understand that mental health is as important as physical health. Through our whole school approach, we aim to promote emotional resilience, support positive relationships and ensure that pupils develop the skills needed to manage life’s challenges.
Supporting Pupils with Mental Health Needs

If you or a child require urgent mental health or crisis support, please see attached information at the bottom of this page. Support services are available for you to access, whatever you’re going through. Mental health emergencies are serious. You’re not wasting anyone’s time.
We are able to offer support in a number of ways.
Support is available to all pupils:
- Pastoral care
- Positive relationships with staff
- Open door policy to talk with a trusted adult
- Delivery of PSCHE/RSE Curriculum
- Collective worship
- Specific Year Six transition and SATs support

The Thrive Approach
To support children’s emotional wellbeing alongside their learning at St. George’s, we use the Thrive Approach. Thrive helps us understand how children are developing socially and emotionally, as this is closely linked to confidence, relationships, behaviour and readiness to learn. Sometimes children need extra support to help them manage feelings, build resilience or feel more secure and confident in school.
We offer whole school, group and individual interventions through activities and sessions. These are practical, supportive, and tailored to specific needs. They may focus on areas such as:
- building self-confidence
- managing emotions
- building resilience
- developing positive relationships
- improving attention and engagement in learning
These sessions are delivered in a safe, nurturing environment by trained staff and are scheduled so as to not disrupt classroom learning.
Targeted Support
Where pupils require additional support, this may include:
- Opportunity to talk and feel heard
- Thrive individual or small group interventions
- One to one interventions
- Restorative approaches
- Emotional literacy support
- Social groups
- Behaviour support strategies
Specialist Support
In some cases, external support may be required. This may include a referral to:
- Mental Health Support Team (MHST)
- Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS)
- School nursing services
- Wider family support

Stockport Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health Support
NHS Stockport Talking Therapies is for people over the age of 16 years, who are registered with a GP in Stockport. They can help you to improve your emotional wellbeing in a safe, compassionate space, if you’re experiencing problems such as:
- Low mood or depression
- Anxiety disorders
- Stress
- Panic attacks
- Sleep problems
- Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)
- Phobias
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- Help to manage the emotional impact of a long-term physical health problem, or chronic pain.

The Solihull Approach supports mental health and wellbeing in parents, children, schools, older adults and high stress workplaces through an evidence-based model in trainings, online courses and resources.
