  • Learning Disability Week

Fri 16 Jun 2023 Mrs Keleher

Next week children and staff will be exploring issues as part of Learning Disability week.

Children will focus on looking at myths surrounding disabilities and how we can overcome these. The week also aims to educate, spread awareness, and increase understanding of learning disabilities. This will build on our ongoing curriculum for our children on diversity.

People with learning disabilities are more likely to experience low self-esteem and self-confidence, social exclusion, and bullying that others don’t face, leading to mental health issues. Being diagnosed with a learning disability does not mean a person is not intelligent. It means they need extra support and specialised care to overcome the challenges they face in a particular subject area and learn in their unique way.

If you want to learn more about learning disabilities and how you can help those affected around you, please follow the website links below:

We also have a great deal of information on our school website and through our SEND Team:

    https://www.st-georges.stockport.sch.uk/send/

During the week we also are welcoming Debra Smith, from Opportunities Together. Debra will be delivering an assembly to our KS2 children and running workshops in some classes on the work her team does in the community for people with learning difficulties and their families.

    What are these documents?

Our School’s SEND Information Report explains what we offer children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) throughout their time with us. It explains how we support them on to the next stage of their education.

Our SEND Policy, is a document that gives more detail about our statutory duties and day to day procedures – for example how we plan the most effective support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) and how we review their progress.

During the day we would like to hear your views on how we could strengthen and progress these documents and ensure our families voices are included in their development.

We will be offering three sessions at different times to try and ensure there is a session that fits with most people’s schedules.

Don’t worry if you are unable to attend. Both documents are available to view on our school website - https://www.st-georges.stockport.sch.uk/send/ - any suggestions or feedback would be greatly received via the school email office@st-georges.stockport.sch.uk please title your message FAO SENDCo.

Our family’s views are very important to us and we would welcome any suggestions in developing these key documents. We also promise to offer plenty of biscuits, coffee and tea too!

  • Coronation Party

  • School Council

Wed 03 May 2023 Mrs Wardle

Yesterday our wonderful School Council met with the planning department and members of the council regarding the school fence on the KS2 playground.
The children shared with our visitors our hopes for the fence being moved and the ideas we have moving forward if the fence was to be moved and how we would use this space to enhance many aspects of our school life.
The school council really were our children's voice and spoke incredibly well. Our visitors were able to see how passionate the children really are at making a difference at St Georges and could see the benefits of moving the fence back to give us more space.
We were told that they would need to go back and have a further meeting and that they would be in touch in the next few weeks with a possible decision.
We look forward to sharing with you further information a and their decision in due course.
Well done again School council you were AMAZING. We are very proud of you all.

  • Inspirational Talk from Bart Gee.

Tue 02 May 2023 Mr Sanderson

Today we had an inspirational visit from Bart Gee. Bart
was born with a physical disability called Arthrogryposis, he has work tirelessly and positively to overcome the bleak prognosis that the doctors gave him as a child.

We were lucky enough to hear his story and witness some of his amazing achievements. We were treated to a beautiful piano performance and watched a short video of his efforts in recent triathlons (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwoSjilDi9w).

We will continue to encourage our children to see difficult as possible and never to give up.

I'm sure that children will wish to discuss today's assembly and we hope you find it as inspiring as we did.
