  • THANK YOU PTA!

Fri 21 Apr 2023 Mrs Keleher

Last term we were visited by some members of our Parent Teacher Association Committee. The purpose of their visit was to gift classes with a large selection of playtime equipment. The children have loved accessing the new resources this week. Equipment included stilts, skipping ropes, balls, dice and counters for new yard marking games; to list but a few items contained within the playtime boxes. We would like to say a big thank you to the PTA for gifting these resources.

The PTA are a committed and incredibly supportive team who give so generously of their time to benefit our school. With school budgets now becoming increasingly tighter, their financial support is invaluable. If you are interested in joining the PTA in any capacity then I know you will be very warmly welcomed. Please contact them via their email pta@st-georges.stockport.sch.uk

Once again, thank you to all our families for your generosity and support with all of the PTA events. All PTA funding goes directly back to the children for them to see the benefits of. I have attached a few pictures of the fun had so far this week with the equipment.

Mr Chilton will be working with our Play Leaders to help and support children in learning new games during lunchtimes on a rota basis during the Summer Term. Our Midday Assistants and Playtime Duty Staff will also be encouraging children to use the new equipment to learn skills and support children in sharing their favourite games with others too.

  • Restorative Ambassadors

Tue 21 Mar 2023 Mrs Keleher

We are proud to introduce to you our fabulous Restorative Ambassadors.

St George’s CE Primary School is a restorative school and takes a restorative approach to resolving conflict.

Restorative Approach is a term used to describe a way of being, an underpinning ethos, which enables us to build and maintain healthy relationships, resolve difficulties and repair harm when relationships break down.

On Thursday 16th March, our 14 elected Restorative Ambassadors participated in a 2 hour workshop, led by the local authority lead on Restorative Approaches.

The training equipped them with the skills and knowledge they need to be successful Restorative Ambassadors.

The children were presented with their certificates and badges in assembly on Friday morning and began their roles yesterday.

Mrs Mirza and Mrs Everall are extremely proud of the children and are looking forward to working with them.

Congratulations children on your hard work yesterday and achieving your certificates to become St George’s Restorative Ambassadors.

    Mrs Everall & Mrs Mirza😊

  • Visiting Melanesian Brothers, Bishop Sam and Bishop Mark join St George's Collective Worship

Tue 14 Mar 2023 Mrs Keleher

It was lovely to welcome Bishop Mark and Bishop Sam along with two Melanesian Brothers to church this morning for collective worship with the children. The children asked really good questions about the effects of climate change on Melanesia and the Bishops' faith journeys.

A big thank you to Mrs Langton and the Eco Councillors for organising and leading the questions yesterday morning.

At St George's we are looking at ways to alleviate climate change within our school and local community and how it will affect our planet globally.

  • Holiday Activity and Food Provision (HAF) is back for Easter!

Tue 14 Mar 2023 Mrs Keleher

HAF is back and ready to give little ones and teens a fantastic experience over the Easter holidays. You will find all of the holiday provider details on our school website https://www.st-georges.stockport.sch.uk/whats-on-in-the-holidays/

The Local Authority have 2 SEND specific providers – Autisk and Active Communities Experiences but all of their clubs are inclusive and will support your child to access their club or will help you to identify a suitable alternative.

Autisk are also running a 1:1 HAF club where children who require 1:1 supervision to participate can access a holiday club. This is by referral only, please contact either Mrs Keleher or Mrs Ellinson to complete this referral.

Please can I also remind families that Jan from Autisk UK will be attending our next SEND coffee morning, 9am on 20.04.23, to give more information on what the group offers for our young people.

  • SEND Coffee Morning

Fri 03 Mar 2023 Mrs Keleher

    SEND Coffee Morning

A BIG thank you to everyone who was able to attend our SEND Coffee Morning yesterday.

Our next meeting will be on Thursday 20th April at 9-10am. We will be joined by Jan Bennett from Autisk. Autisk is a constituted support community group in Stockport offering social groups, workshops, advice and signposting to families who have children with additional needs.

No diagnosis is needed to join their groups as they are very aware that it is hard on the pathway to diagnosis.

Autisk have a fully functional sensory room that can be accessed for free via their social groups and it is also open to use every Wednesday 11.30am-2pm.

They welcome families from all areas of Stockport and surrounding areas. We look forward to chatting more about Autisk at the next Coffee Morning. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions about how the group has applied for funding through charities – something families had asked about this during our meeting in February.

Jan’s attendance at the next meeting has been organised by one of our families - Many thanks go to them for coordinating her attendance at our session. The sharing of knowledge around facilities and support available to our SEND community through our Coffee Meetings has been overwhelming – thanks also go to all who have been able to contribute.

Feedback from the SENd meeting yesterday can be found on the school website: https://www.st-georges.stockport.sch.uk/send/ under SEND Catch Ups

  • Chinese Dance Workshop

Fri 17 Feb 2023 Mrs Keleher

Chinese Fan and Dragon Dance Workshop

Earlier this term children at St George’s experienced a Chinese Fan and Dragon Dance Workshop. The dragon symbolises good luck, long life and wisdom in Chinese culture. Children loved finding out about these ancient traditions and joined together to perform their new dance skills at the end of their session in their own Dragon Dance!

  • Visiting Poet - Andy Tooze

Fri 17 Feb 2023 Mrs Keleher

    Andy Tooze Visits St George's

Earlier this week all children were visited by the poet Andy Tooze.
The children I spoke to following the sessions really enjoyed listening to his poems and joining in with actions.

The children were all encouraged to write and share their own poems too.
Andy was amazed at how wonderful the children’s ideas were and how they confidently engaged with his session.
