  • Headteacher Update - Covid 19 18.03.2020

    Thu 19 Mar 2020

    Dear Parents & Carers,

At 5.15pm  yesterday, the Secretary of State for Education gave a public statement that all state-funded schools in England would be closed from the end of the school day tomorrow.

Having indicated that all schools would be closed, he then went on to say that schools would be expected to remain open for the children of key workers and for those in various vulnerable categories – providing a safe place and access to meals.

We are expecting a definition of ‘key worker’ today from the Cabinet Office. It will take time to determine the nature of this provision.

Although we have been anticipating such an announcement, and prepared for various scenarios, the limited details so far released raise considerably more questions than answers. You will all have your own legitimate concerns and queries.

The Secretary of State gave no undertaking that schools would be expected to sustain a pattern of normal learning during the closure; rather that any available staff would be expected to support other frontline efforts.

I am working with all staff to clarify as best we can what this announcement means for the school, for our children and for you. I anticipate providing more details later today.

Thank you for your support and for your patience in the meantime.

For the next two days, school will continue to work as we have thus far and continue as normal within the COVID-19 Public Health England guidance.

New guidance for households with symptoms

Yesterday, the Government introduced new guidance on whole household isolation in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak:

    • if you live alone and you have symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19), however mild, stay at home for 7 days from when your symptoms started
    • if you live with others and you or another member of the household have symptoms of coronavirus, then all household members must stay at home and not leave the house for 14 days. The 14-day period starts from the day when the first person in the house became ill. It is likely that people living within a household will infect each other or be infected already. Staying at home for 14 days will greatly reduce the overall amount of infection the household could pass on to others in the community for anyone in the household who starts displaying symptoms, they need to stay at home for 7 days from when the symptoms appeared, regardless of what day they are on in the original 14-day isolation period.

    The symptoms are:

    • A high temperature (37.8 degrees and above)
    • A new, continuous cough

The full stay at home guidance for households with these symptoms can be found here:

Should school closure be necessary, home school learning will be implemented through Class Dojo.  Many parents still need to sign up to our Class Dojos – please speak to your class teacher if you need log on details.

  • Coronavirus - latest update 16.03.2020

    Mon 16 Mar 2020 JW

We are currently receiving daily updates regarding the coronavirus and where we think that they may be useful we have put details here on our school website.

We have taken a range of actions in school to help prevent the spread of the virus.  These include:

    • Increased hygiene procedures – teaching effective hand washing
    • Teaching children to ‘Catch it, Kill it, Bin it!’
    • More regular hand washing and washing hands for at least 20 seconds
    • Increased cleaning of door handles / stair rails / etc

The most recent guidance is that anyone with a high temperature or a cough should self-isolate for at least 7 days.  If your child is unwell please keep them away from school for this period of time as a minimum.

Some of the children have been very worried about what they see and hear on the news so one of our main tasks is to reassure them.  To do so we are continuing on as normal but have slightly amended some activities  in school which we consider might be higher risk and are keeping everything under review.

    Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Public Health England (PHE) is the body through whom all of the latest guidance and information is being produced and distributed.  We have been advised to include links to the resources rather than producing our own or downloading information produced by others.  This means that the latest information will be available through the links rather than school needing to update already downloaded information as and when new information becomes available.

There are links to the latest resources guidance and advice contained at https://www.gov.uk/government/topical-events/coronavirus-covid-19-uk-government-response

Coronavirus (COVID-19) is a new strain of coronavirus first identified in Wuhan City, China in December 2019.

Public Health England is working to contact anyone who has been in close contact with people who have coronavirus.

Read the latest information about the situation in the UK, along with guidance for what to do if you think you’re at risk.

Go to NHSUK/coronavirus for information about the virus and how to protect yourself. Use the 111 online coronavirus service to check if you need medical help.

The government has published its coronavirus action plan and expanded its public information campaign.

Number of UK cases and latest test figures.

Read Public Health England’s blog posts about its response to coronavirus and how it uses contact tracing to prevent the spread of infection.

We think it is important to make parents aware that the DfE are keeping schools up to date also.  As you would expect there are a great many similarities and duplicates in terms of links.

    Government Coronavirus action plan

This document sets out what the UK as a whole has done to tackle the Coronavirus (COVID-19), and what it plans to do next.

The action plan can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-action-plan

    The document includes:

    • what we know about the virus and the disease it causes
    • how we have planned for an infectious disease outbreak, such as the current coronavirus outbreak
    • the actions we have taken so far in response to the current coronavirus outbreak
    • what we are planning to do next, depending upon the course the current coronavirus outbreak takes
    • the role the public can play in supporting this response, now and in the future

Current advice remains in place: No school should close in response to a suspected (or confirmed) COVID-19 case unless advised to do so by Public Health England.

    The importance of hygiene

Personal hygiene is the most important way we can tackle COVID-19, especially washing hands more; and the catch it, bin it, kill it strategy for those with coughs and sneezes.

Please help us in sharing simple and effective hand hygiene messages.
